Spring seems to be finally here! I photographed the blooms on this tree in my back yard yesterday afternoon in between shoots. I wanted to make sure that I didn't miss it as some of the trees are already shedding their white blossoms for green leaves. It's a beautiful time of year in Texas, now to wait for the bluebonnets to bloom!

Painted Lady

Last month I attended the Kiwanis Butterfly Festival in Southlake, TX. While I was there they were selling Painted Lady caterpillars to benefit their charity so I purchased 2 to raise. Yesterday one of the butterflies emerged from his chrysalis, I'm still waiting on the second one but it should be later today or tomorrow. This morning I released the one that was ready to go. Once I walked outside he really started fluttering, he was ready to go. I opened the lid and at first he timidly started to emerge. Then he flew straight up to the bush that was there, I tried to get him to go onto my Texas Lilac but I wasn't successful. I was able to get 2 quick shots of him before he flew away. According to the butterfly farm that the caterpillars came from 98 out of 100 caterpillars in nature never reach the butterfly stage, so hopefully it was helpful to raise these two. I'm hoping that I can get better shots of the next one. They are just too eager to fly and don't want to hang around to be photographed.

Plano Balloon Festival

This year I have been attending quite a few of the local festivals. This weekend was the Plano Balloon Festival. They were celebrating their 30th year and it's become a magnificent event. Of course the balloons are the main attraction but they also have good local music and vendors of all kinds. We decided to give Outback Jack's peppersteak sandwich a try and it was awesome! I was very impressed by the attendance, it seemed like every inch of space was taken up by people. The balloons are quite a sight and it's exciting to see them take off into the sky. The day is capped off by a balloon glow which is definitely something to be seen. They also had a fireworks display last night, but we opted to leave early to beat the traffic. Southlake Kiwanis Butterfly Festival

Today I went down to Southlake to check out the Kiwanis Club's Annual Butterfly Festival. It was a rainy day and inside the tent it was a bit dark, but I managed to get a few shots. Their festival is going until tomorrow evening when they will release the butterflies. It was interesting, there were some flowering plants and to lure the butterflies they had pieces of watermelon that you could attach to a stick. When we were leaving we noticed a lady selling butterfly specimens and you could purchase Painted Lady caterpillars that you raise to butterflies. So, we decided to give it a try. Highland Village Balloon Festival

Since moving to Highland Village, Texas 7 years ago from New York, this is the first opportunity that I had to attend the Annual Lion's Club Balloon Festival. On Friday evening a couple of balloons launched and then they have a Balloon Glow, which is something that I have never seen before. Several balloons are set up and then the announcer counts down so that the pilots know when to light their flames. It's a beautiful site to see them all lit up at once. The next morning I went down bright and early to get shots of the morning launch but there was too much wind and had to cancel. I will definitely be returning next year. First Signs of Spring

After a fairly cold winter in North Texas I saw the first signs of Spring. As I was out running my errands today I noticed some trees blooming so I decided to stop and photograph them and was also lucky enough to capture a few bees. I'm hoping that it means more flowers and trees will be blooming soon. In my opinion, Spring is the best season in Texas. Hopefully this gives a little touch of Spring to those in colder climates. In the upcoming months I will be adding more photographs of Spring to my collection of images for sale in my online shop at 1000markets.com

On Saturday, November 8, 2008, Cloud 9 Salon and Spa will be holding their Annual Fashion Show for Charity. This event benefits 3 charities, PediPlace, New Horizons Children's Home and the Sue Weaver C.A.U.S.E. I will be donating my services again this year to photograph the event. One thing that is different this year is that I will be set up to offer Portraits to the guests to further benefit the charities. You can have your portrait taken on an elegant background for $20 and that will include a 5x7 Portrait delivered in a mat ready for framing. I will also offer packages and other print sizes that can be ordered that evening or later on my website. This is a great way to help out these 3 charities. C.A.U.S.E. Certification Launch

Seven years after the death of Sue Weaver, The Sue Weaver C.A.U.S.E. launches a consumer safety program in her memory. C.A.U.S.E. Certification is designed to better protect consumers and employers by offering a means of hiring safer employees, contractors and subcontractors by requiring annual criminal background checks. At Visions the Women's Expo at the Dallas Market Hall on August 5th members of the C.A.U.S.E. board launched 200 butterflies celebrating the launch of C.A.U.S.E. Certification. I am very excited to announce that I have been selected to participate in the Annual Charity Art Gala sponsored by Cloud 9 Salon & Spa on Route 407 in Flower Mound. They cater to families that don't have health insurance, I'm sure you will agree that it's a worthy cause. New Year, New Blog Site

I have decided to start the New Year with a new blog site. In the past month I have attended the PPA National Convention in Tampa and several seminars. In addition, I will be attending the Southwest PPA Convention here in Arlington. While attending these seminars and conventions I have learned about many new techniques and new products that I am excited about adding to my services.
